Encounters with Social Scientists

"Encounters with Social Scientists" begun in 2010 is a monthly seminar in English
destined to Master and PhD. students. Each session consists of a researcher presenting
her/his research project from the backstage: from identifying a research object to
experiences of fieldwork and in the archives, methodological choices, challenges,
successes, errors, or impasses from the beginning to the final stages of writing and
publication. The seminar is interactive and aims to open a dialogue with students,
allowing the latter to accustom themselves to thinking on their feet, intervening or
presenting arguments convincingly and effectively. It aims both at demystifying
research practices and the profession and giving students practice in oral interventions.

The seminar is coordinated by Arundhati Virmani (Centre Norbert Elias/EHESS).
