Filippo M. Zerilli holds a PhD from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1994) and is currently Associate Professor at the University of Cagliari. He has dealt with the history of French anthropology, notably focusing on the late 19th century “naturalist” (i.e. physical) anthropological tradition and its contribution to the making of modern ethnology. From 1996 he has carried out extensive fieldwork in Romania on property restitution disputes and processes, exploring the intersections between law, morality, il/legality and rights. Since 2011 he is conducting a research project on social movements and changing forms of pastoralism in Sardinia. Currently he is involved in an ethnographic project on rule of law capacity building programs in the framework of the EU enlargement process. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Anuac, the international peer-reviewed, open access journal of the Italian society of cultural anthropology (SIAC).
